Are you a recent graduate who is eager to develop skills and expertise in transportation engineering technology? Alberta Transportation has two challenging internship opportunities Technology to work in the Highway Geomatics Section of Alberta Infrastructure and Transportation’s Divisional Services.
Highway Geomatics Section maintains the Department’s spatial data repository, which is used by several analysis applications including pavement management, collision location, appurtenance management and network expansion systems. The section coordinates extensive and leading edge data collection activities to collect surface distress, highway geometrics and digital videologs using mobile GPS referenced data acquisition technology. The Section is involved in development and support of several major initiatives, including the Transportation Infrastructure Management System (TIMS) and Overheight and Overweight Truck Routing (TRAVIS). The Section is responsible for setting and maintaining survey, mapping and imagery standards for consultants working for the department.

The Geomatics Technologist Intern duties will include:
Assisting in update of spatial data sets including boundaries, highway networks and attributes
Analyzing data using Geographic Information System tools
Understanding and evaluating GPS technologies and data collection results
Mapping and imagery for highway planning and design activities

You should be well organized, have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with others. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential as we place a strong emphasis on client service, communication, teamwork and collaboration. Microsoft Office Suite experience is required.

Qualifications:

A related 2 year Technical Diploma obtained within the last 24 months. A Geomatics Engineering Technology Diploma is preferred. Related experience and coursework would be an asset. Note: These are temporary positions for up to 24 months with no provisions for relocation allowance. Salary will be discussed at time of offer. This competition may be used to fill future vacancies.
